Casa II 5/17/2012 Newsletter

Dear Casa II Families,

I hope your little farmers came home yesterday with stories about their day at the farm!  What a perfect day for an outing!  I knew the children would have a blast… but I had no idea how much fun I would have!  Watching the children hold baby lambs, feed pigs and chickens, milk cows, make necklaces (which should sprout within a few days!), eat fresh produce from the garden, and enjoy an outdoor picnic was the perfect field trip for the end of the year.  We got some beautiful photos and will add them to your CD that you will receive at the end of the year!  I have to admit that I’ve found a new vegetable for my dinner table… I tried asparagus for the first time yesterday and thought it was great! It was quite humorous watching the children who were also trying it for the first time.  Many of them loved it… some, not so much. J

On Friday I will be heading “up north” to a cabin to enjoy a relaxing weekend on the lake.  After I mentioned this to the afternoon children yesterday, they immediately split up our Minnesota book collection and each made me a guide of what to look for while I am gone.  They suggested which trees and which birds to look for.  One child looked through the Fish of Minnesota book and wrote me a guide to walleye fishing, including their size, color and diet.  I have attached a piece of work from one of the children on which mammals I should look for this weekend.  I just love to read children’s writing… notice the spelling of some of the animals!  Correct spelling will come with time and experience… but for now, these pieces of work are absolutely precious. J Also notice the detail in her drawings, including the different animal poses.  AWESOME!  What a thoughtful, spontaneous idea from the afternoon children!  They are always looking out for me!

Auburn Manor will visit JMS for the last time this school year on Thursday, May 24th in the afternoon.  The afternoon children always look forward to having their elderly friends observe them doing their favorite works!

We are still collecting boxes and/or bubble wrap to aid in the moving process.  I have started packing up some of the items that we are not currently using, and it’s going to be a BIG job!  Please bring in any extra boxes if you have any!  Also, as we prepare for the end of the school year, I am looking for a few families to “adopt” a plant from Casa II for the summer.  If you would be willing to take care of one for us, please let me know anytime over the following weeks.  Your child would likely enjoy this responsibility because they will be helping out their school!  Don’t have a green thumb?? No worries!  I will NOT be holding anyone responsible for plants that don’t make it! They would have a better chance at survival in your home rather than mine!

Because next week’s newsletter will come from the office, I’d like to personally wish each of your families a safe and wonderful Memorial Day weekend.  Let’s hope this beautiful weather sticks around!  Enjoy!
