JMS 2010 Summer Session Information

We are looking forward to another great summer of interesting and exciting sessions being offered by our JMS teachers and assistants!  Experience opportunities in gardening, sports, Spanish, art, music, nature and more. Children are bound to love the activities we’ve planned!  All sessions will include time to enjoy the great outdoors on our playground, at various local parks and in our gardens. Of course, children will also have access to many of the Montessori materials they love to work with.

You can register your child (ren) for one session or all ten.  Classes will be filled on a first come, first serve basis for current JMS students, their siblings who are 3 – 6 years of age, and new students enrolling for Fall 2010.  If space is available after the registration deadline of April 2nd, we will open registration to the general public.

Session Theme Descriptions:

Session 1, Making Music, June 14 – 18
We will explore the sounds of different musical instruments from around the world and will listen to music that highlights these instruments. The children will learn the cultural significance that music plays in the lives of people around the world. With luck we will be able to take in an outdoor concert!

Session 2, Spanish Songs and Music, June 21-25
 
This session will focus on learnig Spanish songs and their meanings. Children will learn about Mexican Culture through the beauty of their songs.

Session 3, Traditional Mexican Dance, June 28 – July 2
This popular Spanish session will focus on different traditional dances from Mexico. Children will earn about the Mexican culture through various dances.

Session 4, Crafts from Around the World, July 6 – 9
** Please note there is no class on July 3rd**
Children will enjoy making crafts from various parts of the world. We will explore different cultures and will discover what crafts their children like to make.

Session 5, Exploring Africa!, July 12 – 16
The Children will be exploring various aspects of Africa including their food, types of homes, weather, toys, crafts and music. They'll be ready for that trip you might be planning!.

Session 6, The Natural Wonder of Birds, July 19 – 23
In this session children will learn how to attract birds to our gardens and woods and will also learn about some that we don't get to see. They will learn about the various habits and will become skilled obeservers. Hopefully they will get to see the Indigo Bunting that has visited the last few summers.

Session 7, Food Fun, July 26 – 30
We will learn about the many different food pyramids found throughout the world and learn about the foods that make our bodies strong and healthy. However, bring your appetite, because this week we will not only learn about food from different countries, but we will create some delicious treats as well.

Session 8, Exploring Art in Nature, August 2 – 6
Through observation of the outdoors children will discover the beauty and art that exisits in our natural world. Children will have an opportunity to gather natural resources and create many art pieces of their own.nbsp;

Session 9, Camping, August 9-13
This session will allow the children to explore the fun of camping in the true Boundary Waters tradition. Children will learn how to pitch a tent, gather wood, store their food (in a tree?) and anything else a camper needs to know. .

Session 10, Ooey Gooey Science! August 16-20

We'll do something really fun but haven't determined which of our wonderful teachers are available.

Summer Registration Process

Please complete the registration form return with a $350.00 non-refundable deposit by May 15th.  (If the total of your sessions is less than $350.00, pay that total instead of the deposit total.)

The deposit will be applied to your summer session total invoice.  You will receive an invoice for the balance of your summer payment(s), with due dates of June 15th and July 15th. 

Jonathan Montessori reserves the right to cancel any sessions due to low enrollment.  Families will be notified of any cancellations and refunded the cost of that session.

We rely on the commitment of families signing up for summer sessions and staff our programs accordingly.  Therefore, we are unable to give refunds due to families withdrawing from classes.
